Salt & Light cannot continue to function without support. Here are four ways that people can get involved:
INFORMATION AND PUBLICITY
We need to inform as many people as we can about the work that we do. We can do this in three ways.
Through Literature Support.
We have free literature that we can give to interested parties. This includes a full catalogue of all the things that we do in school, a publication that gives full details about The Salt and Light Company, its history and purpose, and a simple brochure that gives basic information.
We also supply a termly newsletter to all supporters and interested parties.
We will supply any of these documents free of charge to supporters, schools or simply people who wish to know more.
THROUGH PRESENTATIONS
We are keen to visit church and other groups to talk about the work of The Salt & Light Company.
People will not be placed under pressure to support financially, though the need for sponsorship will be addressed briefly. We are also very happy to accept preaching engagements, with adequate notice.
We are already very busy visiting schools in Wales, England and overseas, but with adequate notice we will consider travelling to new areas.
THROUGH FINANCIAL SUPPORT - Please note that we are a registered charity in the UK, number 1019789
It is the policy of the Salt & Light Company that we should never accept gifts of finance, or expenses, from schools.
In this respect we differ from most other similar organisations. I do not consider this to be laudable in any way, it is simply what God has asked of this particular ministry, and extends to all schools wherever they may be situated.
This decision has proved to be the most potent witness to the schools we visit. Without a doubt, finance is a difficult issue, but we have every intention of maintaining this approach.
The basis of our stance in this respect is that we feel that we should be supplying a service to schools that displays our total commitment to the children in their care. It is our privilege and responsibility to take the church into the community, and The Salt & Light Company feels that the work should be financed through the church rather than out of the budgets of the schools.
The people of God have responded wonderfully, and most of the ministry expenses are now met through regular gifts, donated by standing order, and often gift aided in order to reclaim tax. At the moment, however there is insufficient sponsorship to pay any salary at all.
We are hoping and praying that God will guide his people to support this ministry so that one full time salary can be paid. The UK minimum wage stands at £5.52 per hour, £11,481 per annum. Other schools' ministries offer a salary well above the minimum wage, but we would seek to attract £12,000 p.a. new sponsorship. One hundred people, sponsoring an average of £10.00 per month would supply the need.
It seems an awful lot, and can only be acquired through prayer and adequate publicity. Please pray that God will meet this urgent need.
Again, it is the policy of The Salt and Light Company that we will never ask people to increase their giving, we will never apply any pressure at all for any reason, we will never ask people to leave money in their wills and we will never refuse an invitation to minister for financial reasons alone.
THROUGH PRAYER
This is the most important form of support. People who agree to pray for the work of Salt & Light will receive the termly newsletter, which can be used to prompt prayer. Urgent needs for prayer are communicated by ad hoc requests via email or post.
Please see the Response page to support by any of the above methods.
