The Salt and Light Company is involved in full time ministry. We work at least forty hours per week throughout the school term. Most of this time is spent in schools, though some has to be used on preparation, administration and travel.
Often, however, after school's clubs and church and community work during evenings will extend the hours far beyond forty. In addition, we often work on Saturdays and on most Sundays Pete will be preaching.
We would like to tell you about the work we do in schools. Please use the 'contact' details in the response form if you have any questions.
Religious Education (R.E.)
Much of Pete's work falls within the RE syllabus.
He leads assemblies, usually using juggling and storytelling skills to share the gospel. In addition there are endless requests for lessons.
Lessons can be with a class, a year group or even a whole school. Pete
will teach about aspects of faith, or specific issues. For example, he could talk about Religious symbols to a year 6 class, Christian and Jewish rules
to year 3, the Jewish festival of Shavuot to year 10 and lead a discussion on his personal beliefs with year 11
R.E. lessons are most often focused on specific festivals in the Christian or
Jewish year. Some have been observed by registered school inspectors
and have received excellent reports.
HISTORY
Pete regularly takes history lessons in school, teaching on Victorian toys or Tudor Childhood. Thanks to the generous giving of Salt & Light's sponsors, Pete has been able to acquire first class artifacts for both R.E and history lessons.
SPECIAL NEEDS
Research has shown that juggling is very beneficial to children suffering from dyslexia. More and more schools are now asking Pete to organise and lead special classes for children with this condition.
Please note that there are many other lessons and activities that The Salt and Light Company provide for schools. Detailed information is provided in the publication "The Things We Do For Love" which is available on request from the address given in the 'Response Form'. There is no charge for this service.
